A Pink round-shaped tablet with a score line on both sides, allowing it to be split into two equal parts. It is an anthelmintic containing as active substances a tetrahydropyrimidine derivative: pyrantel (as pyrantel embonate), a pro-benzimidazole derivative: febantel, and a pyrazinoisoquinoline derivative: praziquantel. It is effective against nematodes and cestodes. Praziquantel severely damages the tegument, thus disrupting the parasite’s metabolism and causing its death. Pyrantel acts as a cholinergic agonist.
It causes spastic paralysis of nematodes by blocking their neuromuscular function at the motor plate. Febantel has an inhibitory action on the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules. The resulting structural and functional metabolic disorders deplete the parasite’s energy reserves, killing it within 2-3 days.
